I often search various media forms and the images that are presented as sexy and beautiful are white women? Recently, the beauty of Asian and Hispanic women are properly being recognized; however, does anyone ever notice that these women usually exhibit white/western aesthetics? It is evident in African American culture that the women seem to be dissatisfied with their general appearence:Evident by the use of "European Silky" hair weaves and colored contacts. There is nothing wrong with trying to enhance one's appeal; however, it always seems to lean towards an European ideal.This troubles me. For example, we all know Tyra Banks is beautiful, but could it be possible that society deems her as such because of certain "perceived" Caucasion characteristics; after all, she was the first and only black model to have graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and to be rewarded a lucrative contract with Victoria Secret. I've also read that Vogue's profits decrease when Black models are used. Why

Well, first you have to take into account the dominant group.

If you take a look at Black-White relations, the power has always went to the Whites and the Blacks were either oppressed, enslaved, or devalued. There has always been this belief that if you want to be valuable and admired, you have to be white.

It's an awful, awful result of white oppressiveness.

Now take into account that aesthetics results from cultural acceptance. Isolated African tribes LOATHE the appearance of the white person. It's hideous. They look like their insides were turned out. Ghostly. Dead. So unappealing.

But they're isolated so they've never had to accept white power. They don't experience many white people -- and their culture does not have to accept them as the source of freedom.

But urban third and first world countries that the English and French once ruled all dominated the culture. It was difficult for anyone darker than white to be recognized as a person.

Now although racist superiority is not taught like it once was, our parents and their parents all experienced some of these teachings. Even if they did not pass down these teachings, we learn these lessons from interactions.

White men still, overall, have the power AND they are trying to keep it this way. Minority groups are usually under-represented in positions of power. Lessons do not have to be verbally taught in order for them to be accepted.

Everyone likes to believe they are valuable and everyone wants at least the opportunity for power: the most oppressed group-- black men-- realize on some level that the light women are associated with money and power and light children are associated with opportunity.

White men control the media and they definitely encourage this nonsense.

You are right. I'm bengali (Brown, but I'm not dark skinned...) and peolpe in my country are obssessed with being lighter skin coulred or having sharper noeses and bigger eyes. It's not just African people who do that. It's every where!

Girl,you are so right. It's sad, but very true. It's just the way society is today. In order to be accepted or to "fit in" many black females feel the need to "enhance their appearance with, like you said, the weaves, contacts, and other things to make themselves feel better. This is probably because American society and Western society (which of course is wealthier) is predominantly white. It appears evident that races prefer to associate within their own race - which is true regardless where you look e.g India, China, Africa, Europe. As such the people with most of the money will tend to influence the direction of business and ultimately media images. Maybe if ever China becomes a superpower with the same kind of wealth that Western society has the media images will begin to change and Chinese features will be the preffered ideal. On the African continent beauty is seen much differently than in the western world. So as people migrate to a specific locale, they will tend to conform to whatever "seems" acceptable and best. It is an observable FACT that people prefer to be around people who look like they do, and have the same culture.

How about the success of Lester Holt as an anchor on MSNBC? He sounds whiter than I am! The predominantly white audience doesn't see his race; the visual is offset by his white midwestern generic american speach pattern and accent. The fact that he sounds like a white accountant makes him intellectually credible to the majority audience. And THAT is what sells commercial air-time.

I agree with Hermosa's comment. It's a reversal. If African features were not envied then every white woman in America would not be trying to look like us. (lip injections, curling and perming their hair, breast %26amp; butt implants. Even our personal style and culture!!) I think beauty is not set by the standards of society or the media, although they try to because they control the media, T.V., etc. People are attractive becaue of who they are not how they look. In addition, what the black people fail to remember is that it was black people in Africa who started the slave trade. It was already a booming business well before the arrival of white explorers, but that amazingly is forgotten. I look at violations as someone else's way to express that sense of offense, I but don't get too worried about it. I suspect that yahoo has the process automated, and no living person even looks at the list of violations.

My first violation was for suggesting that the little twerp do his own homework, rather than post it on YA as a question. I protested it, which got me exactly nothing. Now I shrug and move on. In today's world of beauty, it is a blessing to have everything to be considered beautiful. So girls (and some boys) go around getting cosmetic surgery, hair weaves, fake nails, colored contacts, and so much more to look appealing. My question is for guys/ lesbians: do you find it attractive for a girl to be fake in appearance. girls who look fake: why do you feel the need to change your natural appearance? and natural girls: what do u think of other girls who do that kinda stuff?

I have no problem w/ ppl wearing makeup either to enhance their features and still look natural, or using eyemakup to make a statement but not that caked on look.

As for colored contacts, fake nails, hair weaves, cosmetic surgery, I just don't understand it. Most people do this so that they will feel prettier and the way that they judge feeling prettier is when more people compliment you. But, what i don't understand is that even though you may be complimented on say, your nice breasts, since you know that they are fake, you can't take much pride in it and the compliment wouldnt mean as much as if they were your own. the fact that you know that they are fake kind of diminishes your satisfaction in them. at least, this is how i would feel. don't get me wrong, i think that cosmetic surgery is great for ppl who have been damaged by fire, etc. or were born w/ defects but getting breast augmentations, "perfecting" your nose, and all that stuff seems excessive and not very satisffying.

also, say you have hair weave/extentions or colored contacts. if you meet a guy, he's going to have to see what you really look like eventually. besides the fact that he might be disgusted b/c you're fake, what if your eyes were his favorite part of your figure...for him to find out that they're fake might lessen all of his compliements. i know that i would just feel cheated and lied to.

I'm not a guy or lesbian but I do have an opinio about this. I think girls are trying to look too much like each other, even if it might be without knowing it.

Cosmetic surgery (in my opinion) is great for people who have had an accident that made them look different, fire, crashes, or getting a breast reduction. Those are all fine.

What I can't stand is people who get hair extensions, always have to have a manicure (I've only had 1 once, for my mom's wedding) Plus, a bunch of girls, just by looking at them you question what they really look like under all that make up and cover up and hair bleach.

I try to stay natural looking, by using some mascara, eyeliner, and a little lip gloss to enhance what I think my best features are. The problem is girls don't know how to look like themselves and use make up, but they have to become differnt people to feel comfortable in it. And I'm not saying all girls are like that, but a bunch are.

Hair bonding is attaching "other" hair to your own hair with a special glue like chemical which is attached at the very base of the root. Hair implant would be putting real human hair just under the scalp, this is someone elses hair and does not grow, once it falls out that's it (and usually is put in small qty's and I've heard that this procedure has improved it used to look like the hair on a dolls head -but???)Hair transplant is the process of taking "live hair" off of an area on your head that has hair and "transplanting it to an area that has no hair. A friend (yes i forgave her - after a while!) permed my hair for me successfully once, but the second time it was a disaster! My hair was over processed and was like straw and since then over a period of time my once very long locks have gradually got shorter and shorter to a layered bob (waaah!) its been nearly a year since the perm and i still have slight curls at the ends but i'm getting really sad coz i miss my lovely long hair. Does anyone know whether english hair is suitable for weaves? My hair is fine but theres lots of it and i wonder how extentions etc cover your hair. Any suggestions welcome (within reason) otherwise crew cut it is lol

You are going to have to cut off all the permed hair to go all natural. It's the only way. Even if you just stop getting relaxers the permed part will break off eventually.

You can do the BC-big chop, or slowly cut it as it grow. But keep it moisturized and oil in that order. The weaves and braids are great ways to grow your hair, but take care of it. Learn to do protein treatment and clarify at least once a month. Deep condition.

the same thing happened to me a few yearz back.

as long as the weave isn't being glued in, the weave iz cool.

get it washed n still flat iron it, don't use a hot comb b/c you still have perm. everytime you get new growth, you need to cut that same amount off the endz b/c that'z the part of your hair with perm.

you could do the same thing except get french braidz instead of the wash n press thing. that way, you don't have to do a lot to keep it straight. and you could add hair to the braidz. i did that for a whole year and it helpz so much but you still have to take really good care of it

regardless tho, you have to get the permed hair cut off whether it'z little by little or all at once or all of your hair will break off.

This is permenant and you cannot then revert back to natural type hair without cutting your hair and letting it grow again. If you are wearing weves and trimming your hair everytime you change it then you may be able to cut away at the relaxed hair whilst the new natural hair grows.. This is what I did in order to make the transition from permed hair back to natural easier. However I did find that my hair grew quicker once I decided to just cut all the permed hair off instead of doing it step by step. In order for your hair to grow succesfully you must moisture your hair religiously. This is wat black women do not understand. In order for your ends not to break it must not be allowed to dry out. Its like spaghetti. Before spaghetti has been cooked its straight and hard. If you try to bend it it will snap.This is what happens to dry hair when you comb it or style it. Once spaghetti absorbs water, or moisture it then becomes more elastic and bends withouut snapping. Like our hair it will not break if moistured. Our hair also breaks from the tips, in order for your hair to grow you must keep the tips of your hair on our head whilst the new growth grows. You do this by moisturising. That is how you add lenth. You must also 'deep' condition you hair every week. Do not moisture you hair with oils or grease. this only coats the hair it does not penetrate it. If you put grease on around your finger and put it in water then your hand won't get wet, its waterproof, same with hair. If you coat it with grease, you don't allow moisture to get in. Make sure your get a good moisturiser, a cream which can get inside the hair. Never grease our scalp either it clogs up your pores and is not needed. Your hair will lubricate itself. Keep it clean.

definitely. If you would like some pseudo dreads I recommend the latch-hook/crotchet method. You will need anywhere between 4-6 packets, depending on how thick you want your hair. You may also get kinky twist extensions that can easily be put in with 2-4 packets again depending on how large your head is and how thick you want the hair to get. I dont think those have clips, they are regular track extensions. you can buy clips and sew them on though. Or you can buy extensions with the clips on them, they are very expensive for good quality one's but you might be able to find them for less than $100 if you shop around.

With hair extentions you can either have them glued though out your hair or get clip in ones.

There are different styles you can weave your hair into(bangs, side part, center part, pony tail, all back, etc). When your hair is done, the weft of the weave DO NOT show, unless you had(as it is called) a BAD weave. There are also different ways of attaching the weave extensions, by glue(strand by strand, or track by track between your parted or cornrowed hair), or by sewing it onto your cornrowed hair. You can choose a style that allows your own hair to cover the weft(this is a partial weave). Or you can choose a full weave- a style that covers all of your natural hair, (curly extensions or bang styles are best for full weaves). Your hair dresser should not allow you to leave her shop with your weft on display, that is just Wrong.

You need to get 100% human hair. It cost the most but it is the only one that looks natural and they only kind you can curl and style w/ heat and treat like really hair. Don't get synthetic or kankalon, or any thing but human hair. Also don't get human hair from a discount place because it usually has synthetic mixed in and sheds easily. Ok I've heard from my friends who gets this all the time that the best is human hair however you need to take into account the ethincity of the hair, is it European, Indian, Asian, African, Spanish (u get the point). It is recommended that you get the hair that matches your hair type better. I am tired of seeing black girls sporting Asian hair or European hair. That doesn't look natural and immediately people will know.

If you have fine hair, then the choices are greater in that you can use European, Asian or Indian hair and it would be difficult to tell.

The hair wefts have V shaped protein bonds on them that fuse with the protein in your hair. No they do not break your hair, it is just more maintenance dealing with them. You have to use special shampoo as well as be particularly careful when you brush, style or use heat on them.

Yes the human hair looks natural and I like it because it is quick. When I want a different look this is what I use. Just make sure that your color matches and the texture is as close to your own hair as possible, when you brush yours over the clips.

Yes this could work. I saw it on Tyra last week or something. Just make sure your hair texture is close to the texture of the wig you will be cropping or else it won't brush over smoothly.

Human hair will look natural as long as the color matches. The half wig/fall is clipped under a layer of hair. If your hair isn't long enough it won't cover the clip.

I have a couple of them and I like them. As long as your hair in the front is longe enough to cover te hair you should be fine. Make sure the color and texture matches your hair.

I couldn't tell you what haircut to get because getting the perfect hairstyle all depends on working with the shape of your face and the type of hair you have. I suggest you visit various websites to find what would work best with your face. Remember, just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it'll work for you. Try using different haircut elements. Would bangs work for you? If so would it be better a straight cut bang (high or low) or an off to the side sort of thing? Is your hair thick or thin. If thin, try experimenting with layers either the type of layers that show on the top or the kind that hide underneath. It all comes down to what works best for you. Also, if you have a monotone haircolor you coul always experiment with highlights.

If the inquirer is a perfect stranger, you have a few options.

Ok... yaki hair may say that it is 100% human... it's not. I have been specializing in weaves for a long time. They DO mix other hair in with it.... Think about it this way. How many BLACK women would grow their hair out 20 inches and then cut it to sell? Not many. The ones who would need the money, don't have the hair. Now, most european hair, is not going to blend very well with black hair. So they mix it to make yaki. I would suggest the Bohyme hair also. It is ethnic hair so it is more coarse than european hair, but not quite as coarse as black hair. With a good relaxer or flat iron with smoothing serum to your own hair you should not have problems blending. Hope this helps

It depends on how much of your hair you will be leaving out. If you are getting a full weave, then two bags should be enough. However, the longer the hair you get, the shorter the track will be. So, if you are getting 14 inch hair or longer to sew in, then you might need 3 bags. But if you are just getting 10 -12 inch hair, then 2 bags should be fine.

I think that 1.5 will be enough. That's the amount my sister uses on my hair. It probably depends on the size of your head and how much you get did. Sew-ins are better for your hair then the glue.

I'm not sure why you would need a weave to do a pomp?!? Unless you don't have allot of hair in the front. Take all the hair you have on the front of your head, back comb (rat) the hair so that it looks like you have a nest going on up there. Spray your hair alittle with hairspray only at the root where its ratted. Then gently comb your hair back making sure NOT to uncomb what you just ratted. Make it look smooth, then hairspray again. AND NO you dont need "white people hair" to do this hairstyle!!

If you're straightening it with a chemical the curl will not come back when you shampoo it, but if you straighten it with a heating element, yes the curl will return upon shampooing. Good luck.

A couple days ago i went and got a sew in(hair weave sewd into your hair) and the beautician did my hair entirely to tight and now i have about a million bumps along my hairline so i took it before my hair got damaged and i called the beautician and explained the situation to her and she had the nerve to have and attitude but anyway she told me to come in today and she'll see what she can do, but im not taking no for and answer because this hair-do cost $180.00 and its suppose to last for 2 months so in my opinion she has no chose but to fix it free of charge.

Well considering you took it out before she could examine it, she has only your word for it. I am sure she will do what she can for you, she wouldn't want to lose business, but without seeing what you are talking about, for all she knows, you could have accidentally damaged the hairdo yourself and then blamed it on her. Some people are always trying to scam and get something for nothing, and unfortunately people like you that have legitimate complaints are the ones that end up suffering.

Legally, I don't think she is under obligation to have to provide the service or a refund because you would have to prove that she messed it up and did not provide the service that you originally paid for. :(

I wouldn't call it sewing exactly. It's called EZ Weft and is similar to the hair fusion. No braiding or bonding is required. Check out the page I placed in the source area.

Not sure if bonding is a problem for you but it is also and option. Altough it can be a pain and messy at times, it is a certain way of getting extensions and enhancement to your hair. One thing I like about bonding is if you don't like it, you can take it out right away!

depends on how short, if its really short, what is usually done is synthetic hair is braided into your hair, and then your hair is sewn down, and then the weave is applied. glueing weave is harful enough, why break it out even more? other option is a nice hair growth system, have hair french braided, and wear a lacefront wig which is taped to the hairline and looks so natural you can not tell. try it, i use to wear them all the time.

I'm dark skinned too. I wouldn't go to Sally's b/c they have a pretty weak selection of weave. Check your phone book for a local beauty supply. You can get a decent human hair weave for about $15/pack.

If you stick with your natural hair color, you'll probably want 1B of 2, depending on how dark your hair is. If you want to venture into something different, red/burgundy could be fun. The sales person should be able to help you pick out a nice color.

If you want to try out a color before committing to an expensive weave, you could try on the wig in the same color first, so you'll know what it looks like on you. Or you can get braids, twists, or something with cheaper synthetic hair, so you can know how the color looks on you.

I like the Spanish wave, or deep wave styles. They are easy to maintain, and look good up or down.

If you have dark skin it's usually best to stick to your natural hair color. If you want to add a little flare, I say go for a few highlights mixed with your natural hair color. Weaves come in various solid colors as well as mixed colors. If you do decide to highlight, I wouldn't suggest picking a color lighter than auburn as it may look weird against your skin color.

When selecting a hair style, It's the shape of your face that matters. Round Faces look better with Curly hair, while long faces look better with straight short hair, etc.

Yes, and the JC Penny where I live only did the glue in type of extensions. They did a good job as it is not rocket science anyway, but don't expect glue/bonded extensions to last long. Anyone can do these types of extensions and you can do it yourself after you've seen it done, but it will be better if you let someone else put them in. I have a sew in now and It lasts much longer. I have a big head too and I think you would look good with a long full style. I really like Brandy Pro 10 Frech Bulk. Thats the hair I used the last time my hair was braided. You can do so much with it and its really long. Its 18" folded in half, unfolded its 36", You can straighten or curl it with a flat iron on low heat. If you want more waves you can wet it then put big plaits in it and let it dry, and when you take out the plaits you have big beautiful waves! The hair is virtually tangle free. Oh, and its only 19.99 per bundle!

Weaves can be sewn in or glued in. There are different types of gluing methods including fusion and other high quality methods like beyonce uses. Extensions are braided in and clip ins have clips or little combs that slide in or under your hair. They are the most temporary. With a clip, you could put your hair in a ponytail then clip an extension ponytail on top. Dont you wouldnt want anyone pulling your hair too hard.

And NO you do not have to get a certain length that matches your hair length. You have have hair to your knees if you can afford it. You can get any color, texture and such. I was thinking the same thing but not in terms of fashion and style. I was just thinking that it's getting harder to tell people apart. Or it could be just me. But you're right. Nobody wants to be themselves anymore. On the flip side, nobody likes people who are different.

Good point. This notable mass conformity is remarkably disturbing, although I find your statement to be quite generalized. For the most part, however, this holds true, especially with respect to urban areas. I've also observed that other things are starting to look alike aswell... if you observe vehicle designs today, you can really start to notice definite similarities. Newer GMC and Chev trucks are starting to look a lot like some Ford designs. I think this fusing of designs is due to the medias accelerating investments in the study and research of current human behavior and the constant fluctuation of our society. They study exactly what it is we like, and then integrade it into there designs. To be honest with you, I think you'll have to get used to it, because it doesn't look like it'll be changing any time soon! Sorry dude.

I'm from Philadelphia, which is really diverse, and pretty much everybody still has a strong sense of individuality. I haven't seen much of what you're talking about here ... The only group that seems to look alike is white girls from a certain region of the city. For example, white girls from the Northeast area of Philly seems to have similar clothing styles, hairstyles, makeup. It's pretty easy to point out a Kensington girl, too. But other than that, I haven't seen that at all.

Maybe it's just your location. Because in such a racially and culturally diverse place like where I live, pretty much EVERYBODY is original and genuine! :)

Until your hair grows out more, you are going to have trouble wearing a ponytail, especially if it's uneven and dry. Stick to the braids. Luster's Pink Oil is too heavy. Getting a sew in will last for 2 to 3 months and of course you don't take them out like clip ins. As long as your stylist doesn't put the braids in too tight it is not harsh on your hair so I say go for it. I've been wearing a sew in for a hile and I like it better than clip in because I don't have to mess with putting them in every moring and all of my hair is braided except the front.

Put loads of conditioner in your hair, place a shower cap on your head, and sit under the hair dryer. The heat will cause the glue to melt a little and the condtioner will help in the ease of the hair sliding from the glue. Repeat step as needed. Just make sure you are as patient as you can be... because alota yanking and pulling will definately damage your hair.

Its very difficult and not fun. I personally wet my hair first, then put baby oil on the track and let it sit for a good 10 minutes or so. Then start loosing them up and taking them out. Some glue will be left in your hair so you will have to continue using the baby oil and a fine toothed comb to get it out. If you don't want to go that route, they have hair glue remover at beauty supply stores. I'm sure baby oil works just as good though. Good luck!

When you set your hair remember not to let it air dry or it will be frizzy. Use some setting lotion while the hair is wet and spray it with spritz when the hair is half dry. Don't spray too much it can dry the hair. Tie it up tonight and you will enjoy your curls tomorrow:)

I have no answer for that particular question, but I believe that African American women as well as other women in every culture have a difficult time embracing their heritage or natural beauty. lol, cute question. Well I am blessed with long hair and don't wear weave so I will answer according to what various friends have told me when I have asked this question. Some have long hair and choose to get a sewn in (fyi:hair is braided in a circular motion and weave is sewn into braids) why? bc it is easier to manage for one, last much longer than a normal wash %26amp; set, and gives normal hair a break from normal conditions. Some simply don't have the hair they wish they did. Some like to use weave for a hairstyle they want instead of cutting natural hair, i.e. cut or color. Some use weave to make hair appear fuller. There are so many reasons. I think asking a question like that is implying that African American women don't embrace their heritage, bc of something simple like hair. Come on now lets be real. That is like if I said, why do Caucasian women tan? I personally/honestly think both questions are ignorant, why? bc everyone has reasons for everything. Lets not ignore the fact that Caucasian women wear weave too so are they ignoring their natural hair bc they choose to wear weave for whatever reason? As stated before, there are many reasons. I have seen many older Black women get sewn in on top of their heads, why? Black women are more prown to thinning hair earlier so they have to work with what they got. I used to wear weave but that was only while I was growing out perm. I decided to stop relaxing my hair about a year ago. I finally cut off all the remainder of the perm in May. As long as you take care of it there is nothing wrong with trying something new. I have very coarse hair and trust me, I have done some of every thing to it. So just try it and see how you like it. Judging by your picture I think that it would look really good on you.

This is my second sewn and I paid 65 for it. I have a short hair cut in which I'm growing out and yes it has helped alot to the point where the back wasn't braided and when i took the first one out I had a 1 1/2 in the back and she could braid it!!! When you say net weave, do you mean the entire head covered by the net? if so, then no you can't have your hair out. But if its an "instant"( clipped in), braided or bonded in then yes you can have some of your hair out!!

well the best way to remove it with out damaging your hair is to use bond remover!!! its like a dollar from the beauty supply store...when u let it sit in ur hair for about a hour...you can easily comb the glue out and wash ur hair lik you usaully do!!!! if you cant get bond remover....you can use baby oil or oil sheen!!! the oil will help loosen the glue....and you can also just get a cheap bottle of conditioner...dont waste ur expensive stuff...and put alot of conditioner in ur hair for a 2hrs....but keep massaging it in...and thatll loosen the glue up also...all of them things will definetly work but keep in mind the bond remover will be the best and fastest and less work!!!!!

Get the bond remover. It comes in creamy form or oil form. A lot of my friends complain about the oil form because after they wash their hair, the oil stays somewhat in it. I tend to use the creamy bond remover. Soak it on where the weft and the hair are glued together and definitely let it soak. Gently remove the weft and COMB out the glue from your hair. Yes, it'll be time consuming to get all the glue out but it's better in the long run. Some places also sell bond removing shampoo if you want to use this to shampoo with.

To put in a full head weave - you have to purchase a weave net - basically it is a net cap that covers your head and the hair is sewn or interwoven to it. Another option is to have your hair cornrowed in a circular pattern and the wefts of hair sewn to the braids - more expensive techniques include but are not limited to fusion weaves which range in price to 500 - 1500 per visit. Dont forget the quality of the hair is of major importance - cheap hair tends to bunch and look like a birds nest - good hair starts at about 50 to 100 a pound. I have not had a weave in years as I now rock dreads - but even when I was rocking my little ghetto weave - it still ran me about 150 every two weeks just to get some length added to the back and front. i have braided in extensions and what i do is section the hair off like pig tails and shampoo each section. i use a downward wash, never wash like you normally wash your own hair, it gets tangeled. after washing i condition the same way. before i washed like this, my hair was tangled and matted up in sections because i was washing wrong. Go for the synthetic hair, i.e. Kanekalon, Toyokalon. I agree with the previous answer. Make sure you ask the salesperson what type of hair would work best for your twists. And I want to give you a tip on how to remove the alkaline from the hair you'll be using.

Fill your sink with hot tap water, and add 1 cup apple cider vinegar to the water. Put the hair in the vinegar water solution for 10 mins. Remove the hair and shake out the excess water. Take a spray bottle and mix a combination of water and Infusium 23 leave in. Spray it on the synthetic hair first, then use your braid sheen spray and do the same. Let it dry for a few hours. Your fake hair will feel like your own hair once you're ready to use it. HTH

I think weave is great. The best HAIR is called Remi Goddess or Remi Velvet. It is a bit more than other hair, but so worth it. The cheaper hair tangles, separates and... starts to look like WEAVE after a while. If you have a man who can tolerate fake hair for the sake of beauty, I say it is a gift! I have long hair, but it is not relaxed and the maintenance on FRO is killer. So sometimes, I straighten it, sometimes I wear it natural, sometimes I wear braids, sometimes I do the ponytail thing... I have a million styles, but when you get a good one and take good care of it... there is NOTHING like a good weave. I say try it! Don't spend too much on the putting in of it because you can get the hood hookup from girls or women just as or more talented than the high priced salons. I used a brand called Capelli and it tangles a lot. What can I do besides brushing it all darn day? Are there any products I can use from Sally's Beauty supply or a regular beauty supply that would helps it from tangling and that doesn't require me to wet or shampoo my hair.

Well, Rule number one if the weave is low quality it will tangle NO MATTER WHAT

so make sure you buy GOOD quality weave it will be worth it, my experience is anytime its over 30 dollars a pack its always great.

now when you have a great quality weave, make sure you wrap it EVERY NIGHT! wash it with mild conditoner every 2 weeks and aviod putting heat on it as much as possible, you should be fine then.

I have synthetic hair which is very light and a very similar texture to the human hair. The 100% human hair is much to expensive. I like the one i have in now cause it's very light and easy to manage. It doesn't get all tangled and ugly looking. I add in moisturiser, brush it out a lot and either wrap it or curl it. I just do with it what i did with my own hair. It's so much fun!

I've been wearing weaves for years and I do have thick shoulder length brown hair but I wear weaves for manageability. I only use human hair preferably Milky Way. Make sure to use a leave in conditioner everyday. Get it redone every 5 to 7 weeks for your own hair's sake. Deep condition and treat your hair every time you take it down.

It all depends on the how you get the weave put in and what type of hair you have. If your black you can get a weave sewed in and it will last you about 8 weeks. If your white you can glue them in and they won't last long. If you sew it it will slip out when your hair slips. The their is fusions which is best for whit hair and last more than 3 months but it is very costly.

Hi Out there! I bought the brazilian wave bohyme in the #27 and now Iam wondering what color should I dye my hair to match it ( I am planning to leave a small portion out). I foumd 2 color charts with the #27 :

I think the reason they look so different is just because of the lighting on them. I think the second color chart listed gives a more accurate look. But then again, don't know. so any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

The reason why they look different is due to the fact that most websites use only one color chart for all the brands they sell so it may not be the official color chart for what you just bought. Plus, The color on the computer may not be the same as in real life.

It's easier to dye your hair and then find extension hair to match than the other way around.

I know that a level 7 honey blonde shade will be able to match the extensions perfectly....

well...since i have a hint that your'e black/african american {not sure...}...with that hair color i'd suggest you'd use dark and lovely chestnut brown/blonde and make sure you use a booster...to achieve the lightest shade possible...you should go to a stylist of course anyway...but if you cant...i guess that^^ or a sandy brown would do...its a pretty hair color though for sure...anyway don't ever forget to do a strand test before you do it...and don't leave the color on because you don't think its light enough! it's always lighter and brighter when its dry!!

How about you dye your hair first a color that you like and then find a weave to match it. I'm pretty sure you will find a color to match your dyed hair easily. There are different brands of hair. If you by #27 in one brand it may be lighter or darker than another brand so you will have to shop around. Or if you decide to do it your way, take the weave to your stylist and I'm sure she can mix up something to match the weave color.

Have your stylist look at it before they do anything. They may be able to add the weave so it looks like highlights or that you have two colors of hair (and it not look a mess). But I agree with the person who said that you should have found the weave after your hair color.
